Sonic Pretzel Dogs

Sonic Drive-In restaurants are now serving Pretzel Dogs. There are two varieties of Pretzel Dogs available: The Original Pretzel Dog and the Cheesy Bacon Pretzel Dog. If these pretzel hot dog buns are anything like the bun on Wendy’s Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger, they are bound to be good. Both offerings will be available thru early August.

Original Pretzel Dog – A 100% pure beef hot dog topped with yellow mustard and served on a new soft-baked pretzel bun.

  1. had one with just ketchup and mustard yesterday, what a disappoint, Wendy’s burger works much better.

In comparison, Sonic was not worth the cost or the 65 miles I drove to try one. Tried the pretzel dog at Sonic. My biggest objection and why I will not buy another pretzel dog was due to the COLD BUN. I don’t know if Sonic meant the pretzel bun to be warmed or heated in anyway but the two I got were stone cold. i.e. slightly above room temperature.
I brought the second one home, removed the dog, warmed the “bun” and it was TONS BETTER. Still not worth driving 65+ miles to get one.

Just had Wendy’s pretzel bun burger – WOW!!!! Can’t wait to get another one!!!! Forget Sonic, go to Wendy’s!!!

  2. Ads show dog longer than bun which was definitely what I was served. Too much tasteless bun with a nasty tasting hotdog. Switch to Nathan’s dogs or Hebrew National & it might be edible. It was disgusting!

  3. I’m surprised at the negative comments about the Pretzel Dogs, I had them for the first time yesterday night and thought they were incredible!

Dubba, if you try it again, maybe skip the ketchup and just stick with mustard.. I feel like the sweetness of the ketchup might disturb the balance of it.

  4. Not worth the calories! There are too many good choices out there to chose this pretzel dog. The pretzel bun is not fresh and has no taste…and the hot dog was too small.

  5. Got 2 of these while driving through Eloy Texas. What a disappointment, The bun tasted fine. It could use some large grain salt on it. The hot dog definitely didn’t fill the bun and there was just a little over cooked bacon with ad anemic squirt of nacho cheese. The commercials made it look much better. What a let down.

  6. I like the idea – it’d be great if the bun were anything like one of those soft hot pretzels you get at sporting events, but this thing is miles off. It was more like some big, thick chunk of high preservative bread that’s designed to have a long shelf life. Imagine stuffing a regular-sized hot dog into your wallet and trying to eat it that way. It was terrible. I predict failure.
