Taco bell is casting aside the recently introduced Cookie Sandwich to make way for a new Brownie Sandwich dessert, although both desserts are still available at my local Taco Bell. The Brownie Sandwich features two triangle shaped brownies with a chocolate frosting filling in the middle. The new Brownie Sandwiches are priced at $1.29 which is the same price as the former Cookie Sandwich.
How Does It Taste?
When I first heard of the Brownie Sandwich, terrible memories of Taco Bell’s Cookie Sandwich began to come back to me. The sickening sweetness of the frosting and the ridiculously tough cookies – it all made me doubt the new Brownie Sandwich.
Taco Bell’s Brownie Sandwich comes in the same plastic wrapper with a sticker on it that the Cookie Sandwich came in. The size and general form of both dessert sandwiches are identical, but the Brownie Sandwich looks a lot more appetizing due to my weakness for brownies.
The Brownie Sandwich was so surprisingly soft, it felt like even the slightest pressure on the sandwich would cause it to vaporize (okay, that was a bit of an exaggeration, but the sandwich is pretty soft). This was a far cry from the rock hard cookies of the past. The brownies weren’t dense like real brownies – they had more of a cake-like softness to them. The brownies only had a vague brownie flavor to them, but at this price point it’s hard to expect perfect chocolate brownies, especially from a Mexican restaurant (yeah that’s right, I called Taco Bell a restaurant).
The chocolate icing filling was very sweet, but it remained below the diabetes-inducing level of the Cookie Sandwich. There isn’t much flavor going on here other than generic sugary cake icing. Due to the softness of the brownies, biting into the sandwich didn’t squish the icing out of the sides like its predecessor.
Overall the Brownie Sandwich is a definite improvement over the Cookie Sandwich, but it’s still nothing to write home about. I could see myself ordering this again due to the price.
Taco Bell’s Brownie Sandwich was created as a replacement for the inferior Cookie Sandwich. The Brownie Sandwich’s brownies are extremely soft and only contain a slight brownie flavor. The chocolate icing filling is too sweet, but not sweet enough to make it inedible. The sandwich as a whole will please chocolate lovers for sure, but don’t expect perfectly moist, dense brownies. The Brownie Sandwich is a success in my eyes, but it doesn’t come without flaws.
What I liked: Chocolatey goodness, comes in a nice packaging, the price is right
What I didn’t like: A bit on the sweet side, the brownies were more like cake than brownies, easy way to tack an extra 400 calories on to your meal
