Review: Sonic Chocolate Mint Holiday Shake

Sonic recently released the new Chocolate Mint Holiday Shake. This shake is one of the strangest I’ve encountered. It takes Sonic’s chocolate shake and mixes in crushed up holiday mints, and then garnishes it with whipped cream, a handful of the mint fragments, and a cherry on top. Take note that this shake will only be available through December.

How Does it Taste?

Sonic Chocolate Mint Holiday Shake

I picked up a small Sonic Chocolate Mint Holiday Shake for the price of $3.39. This is one of the strangest shakes I’ve ever had. It’s basically your standard Sonic chocolate shake, but with these little bits of crushed up mints mixed in. I first must point out that I couldn’t even drink the damn thing because it was thicker than the plot of Inception. I had to give the shake a good 10 or 15 minutes to melt to a drinkable state.

After I was able to get my first sip of the Chocolate Mint Holiday Shake, my mouth was flooded with tiny mint candy invaders. It was a strange experience. Your gut reaction is to chew on the mints immediately, which promptly adheres them to your molars. The entire duration of consuming this shake will be spent with candy stuck to your teeth. The interesting aspect of this is that the chocolate shake mixes with the mint already in your mouth, injecting a strong mint flavor into every sip.

I have to say I’m not a big fan of eating mints, but the flavor of this shake is really nice, pepperminty with a hint of chocolate, but not too sweet. I think the bits of mint made it harder to suck the shake through a straw though, because even though it was fairly soft it still took quite a bit of effort to drink.

This shake was an interesting experience. It was like drinking a shake and eating candy at the same time. The flavor of the shake was very good, but I didn’t particularly enjoy having to chew through my whole shake. I would say get this shake just to try it as it is quite a unique shake. If you are a lover of hard mints, then you will absolutely fall in love with this shake.
