McDonald’s just released a new breakfast item, the Steak and Egg Burrito. I’m not sure if this item is regional or not, as I can’t find any information about it on the McDonald’s website, but they are available up here in the Northwest. My local McDonald’s is running a $1 special for three days, but the Steak and Egg Burrito normally runs for the price of $1.89.
How Does it Taste?
I have long been a fan of McDonald’s breakfast menu. The Sausage McMuffin is one of my favorite breakfast items from any of the big chains. I weep silently to myself when I pull up to McDonald’s at 10:31 am and they refuse to sell me a McMuffin. Luckily, however, the Steak and Egg Burrito is available all day long.
The Steak and Egg Burrito is slightly larger than the sausage burritos McDonald’s serves. The Steak and Egg Burrito is filled with egg, cheese, steak, and some kind of zesty sauce. The burrito was a nice balance of firm on the outside and soft on the inside (No I’m not talking about a pair of boobs). The eggs weren’t quite fresh scrambled fluffy, but at least they weren’t rubbery. The cheese wasn’t shredded, but more like the pasteurized cheese you’d find on the McDonald’s burgers, and there was plenty of it.
The steak was interesting. I wasn’t sure what to expect since I’ve never had any kind of steak from McDonald’s before, I was actually slightly frightened, but it was actually very tender and had a surprisingly good flavor to it. There was enough to get a little steak in every bite, but more would have been welcomed. The sauce tasted kind of like a cross between picante sauce and chipotle sauce. I normally have to use the McDonald’s hot picante sauce with my breakfast burritos, but it just wasn’t necessary here. The Steak and Egg Burrito was sufficiently moist and flavorful.
Of the few breakfast burritos I’ve tried at McDonald’s, the Steak and Egg Burrito is easily the best one they have come out with. The sauce was zesty and the steak was tender. I can see myself ordering this again in the future. It would feel weird to order a McDonald’s breakfast item after 10:30, but the Steak and Egg Burrito is available all day long. This one gets my recommendation.
Pros: Tender steak, no need for hot picante sauce
Cons: Not enough steak, ordering McDonald’s breakfast after 10:30 am.
