Review: McDonald’s Steak and Egg Burrito

McDonald's Steak and Egg BurritoMcDonald’s just released a new breakfast item, the Steak and Egg Burrito. I’m not sure if this item is regional or not, as I can’t find any information about it on the McDonald’s website, but they are available up here in the Northwest. My local McDonald’s is running a $1 special for three days, but the Steak and Egg Burrito normally runs for the price of $1.89.

How Does it Taste?

I have long been a fan of McDonald’s breakfast menu. The Sausage McMuffin is one of my favorite breakfast items from any of the big chains. I weep silently to myself when I pull up to McDonald’s at 10:31 am and they refuse to sell me a McMuffin. Luckily, however, the Steak and Egg Burrito is available all day long.

McDonald's Steak and Egg Burrito

The Steak and Egg Burrito is slightly larger than the sausage burritos McDonald’s serves. The Steak and Egg Burrito is filled with egg, cheese, steak, and some kind of zesty sauce. The burrito was a nice balance of firm on the outside and soft on the inside (No I’m not talking about a pair of boobs). The eggs weren’t quite fresh scrambled fluffy, but at least they weren’t rubbery. The cheese wasn’t shredded, but more like the pasteurized cheese you’d find on the McDonald’s burgers, and there was plenty of it.

McDonald's Steak and Egg Burrito

The steak was interesting. I wasn’t sure what to expect since I’ve never had any kind of steak from McDonald’s before, I was actually slightly frightened, but it was actually very tender and had a surprisingly good flavor to it. There was enough to get a little steak in every bite, but more would have been welcomed. The sauce tasted kind of like a cross between picante sauce and chipotle sauce. I normally have to use the McDonald’s hot picante sauce with my breakfast burritos, but it just wasn’t necessary here. The Steak and Egg Burrito was sufficiently moist and flavorful.

Of the few breakfast burritos I’ve tried at McDonald’s, the Steak and Egg Burrito is easily the best one they have come out with. The sauce was zesty and the steak was tender. I can see myself ordering this again in the future. It would feel weird to order a McDonald’s breakfast item after 10:30, but the Steak and Egg Burrito is available all day long. This one gets my recommendation.

The Score

Taste: 8.5/10
Presentation: 7/10

Pros: Tender steak, no need for hot picante sauce
Cons: Not enough steak, ordering McDonald’s breakfast after 10:30 am.

  1. They’re available here in the metro NYC area also. They are this months 2 for $3 special (so long Sausage McGriddle! 3 months in a row as the breakfast special was WAAAY too long) . I was hoping this months special would be Egg McMuffin but when I saw it was this I decided to try it and I was pleasantly surprised.
You also stated that you never had a steak product from McDonald’s before and you were slightly frightened. Next time you’re really hungry in the morning I highly suggest you order the Steak Egg and Cheese Bagel. It’s savory, oniony, cheesy goodness all melty over fluffy eggs and beef there’s no other fast food breakfast sandwich quite like it.

  2. I think the McDonald’s new Sausage Egg Burritos were yummy and thay have plenty of beef. They are a great value and calorie-wise also! I was not aware that they are available all day, but I think that is great.
I hope McDonalds keeps them around for a long time as I like them. Also, I am ALLERGIC to all PORK products, so now there is finally a good meat item I can eat from their menu! YAY

  3. Whoops – I meant STEAK on my last comment and I could have sworn I typed STEAK and not Sausage! I really like the new STEAK and EGG burrito!

  4. Just had the new McDonalds steak and egg burrito. Dried out, unidentifiable beef with no taste! Eggs were typical for McD’s – dried out.. They used the same flour tortilla they use on their regular burrito that starts to crumble after sitting under a heat lamp for too long. And that is even after I told the order-taker that I wanted them made fresh. McDonalds has no clue how terrible their food has become. The only thing they have going for them is CONSISTENCY. They have the ability to consistently produce the same dried out eggs, whether it is on their sausage burrito or their new steak and egg burrito. I’m sticking to BKs bacon burrito for freshness and taste. Try one for a buck, you’ll be better off….

    • both of my burritos were dry, the tortilla stuck to the wrapper and burrito had to be pulled apart from the wrapper. the inside was dry and the first two inches of burrito at the top was empty had nothing no cheese or egg or steak. so the little bit i had on both burritos towards the bottom was sort of flavorfull but i’m sure at a good location where the food was actually fresh and gave you a full size burrito it would of been a good value. the location i went to charged 3.33 for 2. if i was ordering from same location i’d just order the sausage burrito for a dollar and save the extra 1.33.

  5. Steak & Egg Burritos were nasty! I ordered the 2 for $3.33… the burrito was hard, tasted like it had been made at least a day or 2 prior, had hard rubbery egg coming out one side and then nothing for at least an inch. One of the burritos was actually sausage and not steak at all. Sorry I tried these 🙁

    • I too thought it was disgusting. Mine was dry and the meat tasted almost rancid! I will not be buying these in the future.YUCK!

  6. McD’s steak burrito is a f^#@% joke! First bite, almost all tortilla…second bite, no steak…third bite little pieces of meat – they’re not even steak if you ask me. STAY AWAY!!!

  7. These comments just confirm what I have always believed — McDonald’s are not consistent with their quality from restaurant to restaurant. My husband and I routinely stop at a McDonald’s for breakfast when we are traveling and are amazed at how the quality either goes up or down from the last McDonald’s we visited. We have been contacting corporate with complaints when we have bad experiences. And, by the way, we love the new steak and egg burritos.

  8. I dont know how other mcdonalds are but the one in iola ks there steak and egg burrito has no meat to spesk of or egg and you get more bread than anythingi can go across the street at sonic and get one 3x as big and not pay much more mcdonalds you arent anygood anymore

  9. I tried the steak, egg and cheese burrito today. It was by far, absolutely gross. You don’t even taste egg or steak. The sauce is good. Next time I’ll take the sauce and leave the burrito.
