Review: McDonald’s Egg White Delight McMuffin

McDonald's Egg White Delight McMuffinI frequent McDonald’s for breakfast in the morning, and I was delighted (hehe, get it?) to find out that McDonald’s has added a new Egg White Delight McMuffin to their breakfast menu. The legend of fast food breakfast sandwiches, the Egg McMuffin, now has a healthier brother, or sister. Actually I’m not sure, I can’t tell the genders of my breakfast sandwiches easily. The delightful new Egg White Delight McMuffin features an 8g whole grain English muffin, egg whites, canadian bacon, pasteurized white cheddar cheese, and a light margarine spread. I picked up the new McMuffin for $2.49. And for comparison purposes, I also bought a regular Egg McMuffin for the same price.

How Does it Taste?

McDonald’s Egg White Delight is a pale looking creation. Since the cheese and the yolks have become totally white, it looks like the ghost of a regular Egg McMuffin – Like all of the life has been sucked out of it. Thankfully, the sandwich certainly doesn’t taste dead.

The Egg White Delight McMuffin is nearly identical in taste to the Egg McMuffin. The white cheddar cheese and canadian bacon made for that familiar Egg McMuffin flavor. The egg whites themselves actually provided more egg flavor than I anticipated. The egg whites were still overshadowed by the more prominent cheese and canadian bacon, however. After devouring the Egg White Delight McMuffin, I tried the Egg McMuffin for direct comparison.

The Egg McMuffin is one of my favorite breakfast sandwiches, and I figured a healthier alternative couldn’t possibly top it in flavor. Well the Egg McMuffin does have a meatier flavor to it thanks to the yolk, but if you were to eat one of these sandwiches blindfolded, you’d be hard pressed to identify the correct one. I came away quite impressed by McDonald’s Egg White Delight McMuffin. I expected it to be a bland pile of blah, but the defining Egg McMuffin flavor was preserved.

Overview

McDonald’s Egg White Delight McMuffin proved to be an excellent substitute for the Egg McMuffin. The Egg White Delight McMuffin was so similar in flavor and texture that I would consider ordering it again in the future. The Egg White Delight McMuffin is basically a win-win: it’s healthier and still tastes great. I recommend fans of the Egg McMuffin to give this baby a try.
