McDonald’s Cherry Pie should be familiar to most people. It uses McDonald’s standard baked pie crust and fills it with a sweet cherry filling. It appears that the cherry pie will only be a limited-time offering in my area.
McDonald’s has offered some pretty interesting pies over the years, but the one constant has been their Apple Pie. With their new Cherry Pie, they haven’t strayed far from their most popular pie.
The Cherry Pie had a light dusting of cinnamon sugar on the crust which added more than just visual appeal. The slight sweetness and spice of the cinnamon, simple as the combination may be, added a very nice complement to the crust and the filling.
The cherry filling was hot enough to burn the tongue, but it cooled down to edible levels quickly. The cherry filling was very sweet and slightly tart. The filling was just a bit on the sweet side for me, but the flavor made up for it. There were a couple of sizable chunks of cherries in the pie filling just like a traditional cherry pie filling.
As simple as McDonald’s Cherry Pie is, the formula works out great. I think the Cherry Pie might be my new favorite pie from McDonald’s.
Pros: Cheap and tasty, one of my favorite McDonald’s pies now, chunks of cherries in the filling
Cons: A tad on the sweet side, easy way to add another 250 calories to a McMeal
