New to the McDonald’s Dollar Menu and More is the BBQ Ranch Burger, which is one of five new sandwiches to be featured on the value menu. The BBQ Ranch Burger is made with a 100% beef patty topped with melted white cheddar cheese, a zesty barbecue ranch sauce, and crispy tortilla strips all on a classic bun. I purchased the new burger for $1.49.
How Does It Taste?
I’ve never been a huge fan of value menus at fast food restaurants, although I am quite partial to the Jr. Deluxe Cheeseburger from Wendy’s. There’s just something about value menu sandwiches that has me going “where’s the beef?” (that’s two Wendy’s plugins in one paragraph). So when I heard about McDonald’s new “Dollar Menu and More”, I wasn’t the most excited person on the block. However, the new sandwiches they added to the menu was enough to lure me in.
The BBQ Ranch Burger looks about as small as you’d expect from an item that cost $1.00 (it’s $1.49 where I live for some reason). The bun ends up consuming most of the sandwich until you lift up the top bun and realize there is actually something inside the bun. Upon lifting the top bun off, the smell of the sauce and tortilla strips sent signals to my brain that this was going to be good.
Unfortunately, the first bite didn’t contain any tortilla strips or barbecue ranch sauce, thanks to their genius construction of the sandwich where they lay all of said ingredients directly in the center of the burger. Once the bites started featuring the two star ingredients, though, this burger got pretty tasty. Few dollar menu burgers have gotten me as excited as this one.
The tortilla strips were surprisingly crispy for being drowned in sauce and stuffed into a burger. On their own they aren’t that exciting, but paired with the new tangy barbecue ranch sauce, the flavor profile transcends into something wondrous. This is the first item at McDonald’s to feature this particular sauce, and I sure hope it’s not the last. It was a wonderful mix of tangy and zesty, rather then the usual sweet and bold that must barbecue sauces are like. I have to say that it worked very well here, and this is easily one of the best value menu burgers I’ve ever had.
McDonald’s BBQ Ranch Burger is a new addition to the Dollar Menu and More that doesn’t disappoint. While the burger is lacking in beef, it makes up for it with a bold flavor profile thanks to the tortilla strips and tangy BBQ ranch sauce. The tortilla strips add an interesting crunch and corn flavor to the burger, while the sauce adds a much needed tang and zip. The cheese is kind of just there, but as a whole the burger works wonderfully. You can’t get a much tastier burger for $1 than this.
What I liked: Zesty barbecue ranch sauce, crispy tortilla strips, pretty satisfying for the price
What I didn’t like: sauce and tortilla strip coverage only at the center of the burger, needs more beef (to be expected from a value menu burger)
