IHOP has rolled out three brand new flavors of pancakes with a promotion dubbed the Summer Signature Pancakes. I decided to try the Tiramisu pancakes since I’m crazy for chocolate anything in and on pancakes. I purchased a Ham & Eggs combo plate with two Tiramisu Pancakes for $6.99.
How Does It Taste?
IHOP’s Tiramisu pancakes drew me in with the alluring mixture of chocolate drizzle and mocha cream. The pancakes looked good, but did they taste like Tiramisu?
Tiramisu is a fairly light Italian dessert, and these pancakes were also surprisingly light in flavor. They are fairly minimalistic compared to the other two new pancakes offerings, so it’s no surprise that the flavor wasn’t too out of the ordinary. There wasn’t much chocolate drizzle on the pancakes, so the chocolate flavor wasn’t overwhelming.
The mocha cream between the pancakes had a very mild mocha flavor to it. Although light in flavor, it was a necessary component for these to be dubbed “Tiramisu” pancakes. The result of the chocolate syrup and mocha cream is a chocolatey pancake experience with hints of mocha and just enough moisture from the whipped cream and mocha cream to save the need for adding any kind of syrup (I’m not sure what syrup any sane person would want to add to these pancakes).
While the lightness of Italian Tiramisu works very well, in pancake form it felt quite incomplete. I couldn’t help but feel like the pancakes were missing something to really make them shine.
Overall the IHOP Tiramisu Pancakes were just a fair experience. I enjoyed the Tiramisu Pancakes, but nothing really stood out about them. The flavors were mild and not all that exciting. If you were expecting Tiramisu in a pancake, this isn’t quite it.
Pros: Chocolate lovers will like these pancakes, no overwhelming flavors
Cons: Not quite Tiramisu, not diet friendly, felt like it was missing something
