Review: Dairy Queen Chocolate Candy Shop Blizzard

Candy Shop BlizzardDairy Queen has brought back the Chocolate Candy Shop Blizzard for the January Blizzard of the Month. The Candy Shop Blizzard was the Blizzard of the Month back in July of 2012. This Blizzard features chocolate DQ softserve, chocolate fudge, and assorted mini chocolates. I picked up a small Chocolate Candy Shop Blizzard for the price of $2.69 (Marked down $.50 due to being the Blizzard of the Month).

How Does it Taste?

The Chocolate Candy Shop Blizzard is one of the most interesting Blizzards I’ve had from Dairy Queen. The Blizzard is pretty standard until you add the mini chocolates into the mix. The mini chocolates are essentially smaller versions of the assorted chocolates you get in those heart-shaped boxes on Valentine’s Day, or in my case, they’re like smaller versions of the assorted chocolates in those heart-shaped boxes that you don’t get for Valentine’s Day. The assorted chocolates come with three different fillings: fudge, caramel, and hazelnut creme.

Candy Shop Blizzard

This Blizzard is the richest Blizzard I’ve ever eaten. As if the fudge they load into the ice cream wasn’t rich enough, they load this thing up with mini chocolates. Pretty much every bite of this Blizzard included at least one mini chocolate, and some bites were inundated with them. When you end up taking a mouthful of the chocolates, it is difficult to discern the flavors from each other. It was only when I intentionally went out of my way to sample only one chocolate at a time that I could begin to tell the different flavors apart.

I have to say that the hazelnut creme chocolates were the best of the bunch. The fudge mini chocolates tasted like a block of the fudge coating on Dairy Queen’s dipped cones. The caramel mini chocolates tasted like caramel, but I’m not a big fan of caramel so the hazelnut mini chocolates win.

Overview

The Chocolate Candy Shop Blizzard might be a chocolate lover’s dream. The mini chocolates are very chocolatey, and the fillings add a nice bit of variety to the overwhelming amount of chocolate. I think this Blizzard might have been better suited as the February Blizzard of the Month since assorted chocolates are a big thing then. I love chocolate, however, this Blizzard was just a tad rich for me, but overall I enjoyed it.

The Score
