The latest sandwich from Carl’s Jr. is the Jim Beam Bourbon Burger. The burger features a choice of single, double, or Six-Dollar patty, two slices of pepper jack cheese, crispy onion straws, lettuce, tomato and a special Jim Beam Bourbon sauce. While this burger probably won’t get you drunk, the sauce is actually flavored with Jim Beam Bourbon. I picked up the Six-Dollar variation of the new burger for $5.59.
How Does it Taste?
Carl’s Jr.’s Jim Beam Bourbon Burger is a messy one. Even before taking a bite out of the burger, I ended up with the sticky Jim Beam sauce all over my hands. The new sauce is quite interesting – it is tangy, sweet, savory, and slightly spicy. The sauce tastes like some kind of sweet, chipotle barbecue sauce, but with a specific component I can’t pinpoint. Perhaps this was due to the flavoring of the Jim Beam Bourbon. I found the sauce pretty enjoyable, but it could be too weird for some.
The burger itself was top notch. I’m a huge fan of Carl’s Jr.’s Six-Dollar burgers, so the patty didn’t disappoint. The patty is thick, juicy, and has a very good flavor for a burger from a fast food joint. The bacon was pretty standard for fast food. It wasn’t crispy, but it wasn’t totally flimsy. There was a fair amount of bacon on this burger and a large portion of it protruded from the sides as made evident by the pictures in this review.
The crispy onion straws were not what I expected. They were crispy, very crispy. As a matter of fact, I’d find it hard to tell them apart from French’s french fried onion topping. The onions were basically all crisp, but they did add a significant onion flavor to the burger. I quite enjoyed the crunch they provided and they definitely improved the burger overall. Carl’s Jr. made a good choice opting for the crispy onions over onion rings.
The rest of the burger provided no surprise. Lettuce and tomato provided some texture and bulk to the burger and the pepper jack cheese added a slight spicy flavor. I should point out that the generous amount of sauce on this burger is present throughout – not one bite was lacking in tangy, slightly spicy bourbon sauce.
Carl’s Jr.’s Jim Beam Bourbon Burger is a great fast food burger that will satisfy. I can’t say what the other two patty variations on this burger are like, but the Six-Dollar patty was thick and juicy, and went very well with the unique toppings on this burger (bourbon sauce, crispy onions). The sauce might turn some off of this sandwich, but overall I enjoyed it for what it was and I give this burger a recommendation.
