Burger King decided to kick off 2013 by releasing a horde of new and returning items including: the Philly Chicken Sandwich, the Italian Chicken Sandwich, Chicken Nuggets, Cheesy Tots, a Molten Fudge Sundae, and Molten Fudge Bites. Information on these items appears to be limited for the time being, so these items may not be available at all BK locations. I purchased a Philly Chicken Sandwich for the price of $4.99.
How Does it Taste?
The BK Philly Chicken Sandwich takes Burger King’s Original Chicken Sandwich and loads it with a healthy portion of cheese and a blend of bell peppers and onions. First of all I’ll start by saying this sandwich is probably overpriced by a dollar or two. I mean the chicken isn’t even “real” chicken like their Tendercrisp Chicken Sandwich. But I’m no pricing genius, so I’m sure the folks down at BK headquarters have run through dozens of algorithms and equations to determine that this sandwich is indeed worth $5.
The Burger King Philly Chicken Sandwich tastes almost exactly like expected, the Original Chicken Sandwich with some slices of cheese and a dose of peppers and onions. The chicken patty on my sandwich was sufficiently juicy. The cheese was nice and melty, and there was plenty of it. The peppers I had some problems with. The peppers and onions tasted weak and prepackaged, and there weren’t a whole lot of them on my sandwich. They had a kind of unpleasant sogginess to them, although it’s not all that noticeable if you aren’t dissecting your sandwich like I did. The peppers and onions aren’t so terrible as to make the sandwich inedible, but I really would have liked to see some nice grilled pepper and onion slices like the ones featured on real “Philly” sandwiches, especially at the price they are asking.
The Burger King Philly Chicken Sandwich left a lot to be desired. I went in knowing what to expect, but I still felt disappointed by the end of the meal. If the onions and peppers tossed on this sandwich were of a higher quality I think this sandwich really would have been a treat. Overall it was just an OK sandwich, and if you are a fan of the Original Chicken Sandwich then you will like the Philly Chicken Sandwich. Luckily I had some yummy Cheesy Tots to go with it.
Pros: Chicken patty was juicy enough, plenty of cheese
Cons: Peppers and onions left a lot to be desired, a bit pricey
