Review: Arby’s House Made Chips

Arby’s is now offering House Made Chips as a side item in place of french fries. The House Made Chips are thick-cut kettle style chips made in the store sprinkled with an Arby’s Sauce seasoning. The chips came free of any extra charges with my meal, but a standalone order will cost $1.89.

How Do They Taste?

The new House Made Chips come in a sizable paper bag. I was surprised by how many chips you get in an order. I suppose this isn’t too unreasonable though, as potatoes are pretty cheap. The chips range in size from medium to “holy crap that’s huge!”.

The chips are covered in Arby’s Sauce seasoning and some chips have very little of the seasoning while others are completely covered. The chips were stiff and had a nice crunch to them. While eating the chips, the crunch was so loud I couldn’t hear my own thoughts. A sure sign that a great kettle chip had been achieved.

The Arby’s Sauce seasoning they used on the House Made Chips tasted primarily like ketchup, but after a few bites, it was evident that the seasoning inspires a whole host of flavors. The seasoning is tangy, sweet, salty, and has a very ketchup-like vinegar and tomato flavor. It does taste vaguely like Arby’s Sauce, so Arby’s didn’t miss the mark when it came to the name of the seasoning.

Most of the chips I got were perfectly crispy, but there was maybe two or three chips in my order that were undercooked and soggy. It’s easy to get past this fact though when the vast majority of the chips came out just right. Similar to french fries, it’s very rare that all of them turn out perfect.

Arby’s House Made Chips provided a great crunch with a tasty seasoning. The chips are sizable and the amount you receive in an order is quite impressive. I am happy that these are being offered as an alternative to fries, and I hope that they stay on the menu, because I would definitely order these in the future. I give the new House Made Chips two thumbs up.
